Frequently asked questions
- Is OwnVoice Academic free? Yes — you can use it free for your first three coursework projects. After that you can upgrade to Pro for unlimited coursework.
- Does OwnVoice write essays or generate assessed answers? No. OwnVoice helps you understand your brief, think critically, connect your own experience and write in your own academic voice. You remain the author of your work.
- Will my university consider this cheating? OwnVoice Academic is a planning, thinking and reflection workspace. It does not complete assessed coursework for you, invent evidence or fabricate references. Whether you are permitted to use OwnVoice depends on your institution, course and assessment rules. Check your university or awarding body's current academic-integrity policy before using any study-support or AI-enabled tool.
- What does Pro cost, and what do I get? Pro is £12 a month or £99 a year (a saving of about31%). It unlocks unlimited coursework projects, full work history and the writing consistency editor. See Pricing.
- Can I get a refund? Yes — we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. See our Refund Policy.
- Who takes my payment? Paddle.com is our authorised reseller and the seller on record. Your card details go to Paddle, not to us, and your receipts and invoices come from Paddle.
- How do I cancel my subscription? Manage your subscription in the app at Billing or email us with your account email. Cancelling stops future payments; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Can I export my work? Yes. You can export drafts, reflections, outcomes and Experience Bank entries at any time, as PDF, DOCX or CSV depending on the item.
- Does it write in British English? Yes, British English is the default, and the app flags American spellings in your draft. You can choose another academic system and language in your writing profile.
- Can I use it on my phone? Yes. The website works on phones and tablets and can be installed to your home screen. Apps for iPhone and Android are on the way.
- What does “beta” mean here? The five-stage workflow is complete and in daily use; beta means we are still adding features and improving them quickly, and we welcome your feedback. Your work is saved and exportable throughout. See our BETA Policy.
- How do I delete my account and data? Ask us by email and we will delete your account and its content. You can also delete individual coursework projects and Experience Bank entries yourself at any time.
- Is my data safe? Your coursework is private to your account. Read our Privacy Notice and Governance pages for full details.
- Does OwnVoice replace my tutor? No. It provides planning and review prompts, but your tutor or supervisor remains the right person for module-specific academic guidance.
- Does OwnVoice use my coursework to train AI? No. Your coursework is not used to train AI models.
- Who owns my coursework? You retain ownership of the content you create and the genuine experiences you record.
- What happens after the three free projects? Your existing work remains available. When you try to create a fourth project, you are invited to choose Pro.
- Does OwnVoice support nursing and social work coursework? Yes. It supports planning, evidence mapping and reflective work, while you remain responsible for confidentiality, professional standards and the submitted work.
- Does OwnVoice support reflective assignments? Yes. You can organise genuine reflection using Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle or Kolb’s Learning Cycle.
- Does OwnVoice support dissertations? It can help decode the question, map criteria, organise reading and review chapters. It does not replace supervision or research ethics approval.
- Does OwnVoice support professional qualifications? Yes. It can map outcomes and organise genuine workplace evidence for programmes such as CIPD, CMI and vocational qualifications.
